Alex Aloise - The Number 23

The Number 23 starring Jim Carrey is a pretty awful movie. The plot is boring, the story is slow, and the acting is damn-near atrocious. But it actually fits this class pretty well, I think. The story is about a man who discovers a book called The Number 23. This book is a murder mystery. Throughout the book, many secrets are revealed about this peculiar number. Carrey's character learns that all of the great tragedies in history have somehow been associated to 23. Even his own life has a close connection to 23: his phone number and social-security numbers, even his birthday all somehow relate to 23...or 46...or 32...or 6=3 x 2, like I said, it's a pretty stupid film. As the man continues to read the story he sees that the book parallels a lot of his life. It becomes his mission to discover more about the book, where it came from, who wrote it (the author is listed as Topsy Kretts...Top Secrets...i'm so glad i watched this for free). The movie reminded me a lot of mysterium and tremendum. The man is determined to solve the mystery of this book, the mysterium. It takes him on a "dark and dangerous journey of discovery." However, the end is really lacking any sort of tremendum, again, it's pretty dull. Still, it kinda fits with what we've been talking about.
