Greg McCracken- Wings of Desire

Wings of Desire is one of those movies that is reflected on more than watched. During the movie, I found myself in a daze, trying to comprehend what I was watching. Afterwards, I felt multiple thoughts within myself that I gathered from watching this film. Seeing the angels move between people and listening to each persons thoughts seemed confusing and hard to comprehend. It was later that I realized that this was a parallel with my thoughts on life and reality. No two thoughts were alike in this film and it seems to me that no two realities are similar in this world either. Instead each person perceives their own truth and calls it reality. In Wings of Desire, the angels moved in between everyone with knowledge of truth while each person only perceived what they thought was knowledge.

In the movie, one of the angels wanted to become human, instead of living the transcendent life that many humans could only dream of attaining. This idea portrayed to me that attaining truth is not enough, but instead enjoying humanity is the meaning of life. This was especially brought to my attention when the angel attained human form and marvelled at all the colors that were in a painting on a wall. So often in our own search for meaning, we forget to look around and enjoy life for what it is (to us.)
