Anna Backens - 300 movie

Spiritually, 300, I thought, contained enumerable parallels relating to Christianity. Leonidas, the king of Sparta, a city-state of Greece, appeared to put on Christ-like attributes when facing Xerxes, an unrelenting enemy. Xerxes, in my opinion, because of his evil intent and unrelenting desire for infamy and power, resembled Satan. As Leonidas and Xerxes faced each other several times on the battlefield, Xerzes temped Leonidas with power asking him to take his power to the ends of the earth. As Leonidas refuses the request, Xerxes then threatens Leonidas, mocking him and taunting him. This reminded me of how in the book of Matthew, the devil approaches Jesus in the desert taunting him and Jesus refuses.
The last scene was very powerful in how Leonidas was the last one standing out of his entire army and he spread his arms out, in a gesture of symbolism of sacrificial love for his men, wife, and family, and as a final sign that he gave all of himself. As this occurs, he wispers, "my queen, my wife, my love".
I thought it very interesting to watch the culture at the time and the priorities of the individuals. Young boys were raised to be superhuman warriors and the women were just as strong and powerful in domestic and business issues in the village. I noticed that Leonidas's wife was a very powerful woman who loved her husband and showed him respect. In my opinion, she showed the merciful side of herself as she begged for the ending of the war.
