Alex Aloise - Outside Reading 3

I thought The DaVinci Code was a great book. The movie was ok, but the book was fantastic. Yeah, it was pretty simple to grasp and even a 10 year old probably could have understood it perfectly well. But still, it was an exciting book which asked a lot of really interesting, intriguing questions. What if Jesus and Mary Magdalene really did have a family? How would that effect the Church, and all of Christianity? I think for a lot of people, those types of questions represent a form of Mysterium Tremendum. Those are questions we may never know the answers to, but do we really want to? What would be the impact of those answers? How many people would lose faith? How many people would find it? It's a really touchy subject for many people. Faith is not something that can just be easily rearranged. Many people live, and die, for their beliefs so the idea of them being proven wrong or changed is terrifying. That's probably why I still see books and movies trying to prove that what was suggested in The DaVinci Code was false. Even 3 years after the book came out, people are still so frightened by that mystery that they will do anything to disprove it. It's just really interesting to me.
