Alex Aloise - Outside Reading 2
This past summer I read all 7 Chronicles of Narnia books. I was aware before of the connection between the books and Christianity, however, after reading them all I saw the link more clearly. Aslan really is a Christ-like character, especially in the Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. He is the leader and role model for the children. He willingly gives himself up to be killed by the white queen so that the Narnia can survive. Then, he comes back from the dead to assist, and win, the war. In the rest of the books he takes on a very God-like quality. He isn't as involved as he was the first time around. He is more of a guiding light to the other characters. He shows up when they need him most and points them in the right direction so that they can do what they have to in order to overcome whatever struggle they are up against. By the same token, Narnia is really Heaven. I don't want to spoil the books in case someone hasn't read them all but by the end of the series the connection between the two places is REALLY apparent. I liked the series and thought that the connections between fantasy and religion were really interesting.
