MY POETRY EXPERIENCE

I am Vietnamese lady. I liked poetry when I was in elementary school. I started to write at that time. I like to write the poems that make the readers feel those are from the true story. Almost all of my poems are from the true stories too. The rules to make the poems in Viet-Nam are different than in USA.
My experience about writing poetry is:
- When I have quiet time
- Early morning or midnight is the best.
- Sometime, I got inspiration up when I was happy or I was lonely.
I did not have a chance to learn the rules to do the poetry in Viet-Nam and in USA before the year 2004. In the fall semester 2004, I took the class to learn the rules to do poetry at Thomas Nelson and then I started to do some poems.
This is the first poem that I wrote in the class:
This class totals is 23
Some are on, some are off.
Especially, when paper is due.
Almost all students were out
Oh! Mine
I am here and turn in my paper
I hope I will pass!
And then the last poem in this class was:
My teacher is calm and intelligent
He keeps the class challenged
All homework should be done
Reading and reacting for lesson
Next day review and writing sentences (poems).
He checks to see what students have done
The class so smooth and silent
I will miss all these when the class is done.

Benefit of yoga

I am learning yoga. I would like to know about the benefit of yoga. The benefit of
yoga practice goes far beyond the actual time you spend in the poses. One of the most common reasons why people begin practicing yoga is to improve their health.

A major benefit of yoga is physical.
Yoga improves your flexibility. – The stretching that you engage in during every practice helps lengthen and stretch muscles, which helps reduce the risk of injuries.
It helps to improve your balance. – The majority of yoga practices include some type of balancing in the poses. A significant number of people, especially as they began to get older, start to have problems with balance, which can lead to major injuries due to falls. By having a greater sense of balance, you are able to move more easily and safely.
Yoga can help reduce pain. - Tense muscles often contribute to pain. Relaxing muscles helps to minimize muscle tension and the pain that is associated with it.
It tones your muscles. – Yoga works all the muscles in your body. It helps strengthen and tone them and also builds endurance and stamina.
It helps to increase your level of energy. . – Carrying tension in your body takes an enormous toll on your energy reserves. By learning how to relax through your yoga, you can get rid of tension.
Yoga helps promote a sense of relaxation. Breathing deeply as practiced in yoga, helps relax your muscles and also brings much needed oxygen to your cells.
Each yoga practice ends with some type of relaxation. Many yoga experts believe that a relaxation pose is the most beneficial pose in any yoga practice.
Another benefit of yoga is mental.
Yoga clears your mind and helps you focus your attention. – During your practice, you are focusing your attention on your breath and turning inward. This concentration allows you to withdraw from the distractions in your environment.
Yoga helps reduces stress. - Deep breathing helps reduce the hormones that are released when you are feeling overwhelmed, overloaded, and frazzled.
Yoga can help release stuck emotions. – Often stuck emotions find their way into our bodies. Remember, your mind and body is one; you will often experience that as pain in some part of your body. A benefit of yoga is that by breathing deeply into places in your body that hold tension, you can help release the emotions that may be buried there. .
You gain a sense of peace and tranquility. - Most yoga practices include some time for meditation. Regular meditation helps your mind reach a state of inner calm. It helps you gain control over your thinking instead of being at the mercy of wayward thoughts.
As you can see, the benefit of yoga has far reaching effects in every area of your life. Maintain a regular yoga practice, and you will see for yourself, how yoga can benefit you too.
I read all the benefits of yoga above and then I feel more interested and happy to practice yoga. After I read, I try to remember some basic poses (action) and practice daily.

HISTORY OF YOGA - Mrs. LE

History of yoga

I am learning yoga. I would like to know the history of yoga. Is yoga just like an exercise? They believe there is nothing wrong with implementing this form of exercise into their daily regiment to promote a healthier body.
Yoga is an ancient path to spiritual growth, and originates out of India
where Hinduism is practiced. The practice and goal of yoga dates back to the Upanishads,
written between 1000 – 5000 BC.
The history of yoga is based in the Indus Valley civilization. The yogis
encourage union with the finite Jiva (transitory self) and with the infinite Brahman
(eternal self). Brahman is a term used by the Hindus to mean “God”.
Yoga is the spiritual lessons to be grasped by the soul within the person within the body where there is a circle. The experience that is called the “Kundilini” has an effect within meditation. They have many types of yoga. The ancient people record and keep what we are following now.
I think about all the good things of yoga and the hard time to keep up with
our ancient people, and all the teachers of yoga. I respect and appreciate them.

Kathleen Ross- Crisis of Self?

This class wasn't my cup of tea, I can admit that. The semester I feel i have a a crisis of self if you will or even a crisis of faith. I don't claim to be religious, although somedays I think having that guiding factor could help. This semester I struggled with wanting to please everyone that I forgot what I wanted. As graduation has approached I finally think I have it under control and no one could walk over me, even if the tried. This class, while not my favorite has opened my eyes on other ways to veiw situations. Even if I didn't like the movie we saw that week, once I was removed from being forced to watch it I was able to find some message in it that I could use in my life. With Graduation pending and only days away I now at least know what I path I want to charge down and am making strides towards getting there. Good Luck to all the other graduates and to those who still have time left, cherish it. Dont over analyze anything and love who you are.

Kathleen Ross- Spiderman 3

So I was dragged to see Spiderman 3. I've seen the other two and enjoyed them but people were giving the 3rd one a bad rap. The movie was too long and the conficts between the Sandman, Venom and Spiderman kind of played a secondary role to the true conflict in my mind. I think the real conflict was an internal one. Much like Hirata in Cold Fever. When spiderman decided that he wanted to marry MaryJane he aunt told him that to be married you had to put in front of yourself. The orginially thought he was ready to do that but as the movie painfully wears on her realizes he's not and before it knows it, looses her because of it. This internal fight that spideman goes through I found to be intriguing. Like Hirata in cold fever its almost like he has a lack of faith in himself. Spiderman turns into this cold, sly version of himself and creates havoc on those around him. While Hirata didn't necessarily turn cold, he was cold to start with and treated his journey as a burden.

Kathleen Ross- Karma

Karma to me isn't necessarily a religious thing but I do believe definitly deals with the spiritual side of things and in this class we talked extensively about spirituality , at least i personally feel this way. I have to say this semester by far was one of the hardest ever. Not necessarily in terms of class work, although it wasn't easy but more so personally. My life changed in more ways than one and I struggled to find the reasoning behind the changes and one day I just decided it was Karma. I bought some books on it and slowly began to see that maybe this was the universes way of telling me to wake up and take account for my actions and what I say. So i jumped on the bandwagon and remind myself daily that what comes around goes around. That I should never act negatively or cause harm on other because although I may not see the reprocusions immediatly in time they will come. So far my quest for better Karma has been sucessful. I no longer sweat the small stuff or worry about the future. I take things as they come day to day and do things to benefit myself as well as extend a helping hand. You never know when you may need a little help.
